This exhibit showcases over 100 inventors and innovators, taking you on a journey through the African American experience from West Africa to the present day. You can read and view biographies, patent drawings, authentic inventions and representative models of the inventions.
This exhibit highlights African American trailblazers and contemporaries in the fields of science, technology, transportation, hair and skin care, medicine, household items and fun things to do. Learn about the ingenuity of these trailblazers whose genius shone through despite the roadblocks of adversity and racial barriers.
A free lecture highlighting the exhibit and/or a video entitled, “The Roots of African Civilization,” looks at the societies of the people who lived in ancient West Africa; its major kingdoms; important cultural signposts, such as religion and the seeds of the European and American slave trade that would later take hold. (Video available for Black Inventors Showcase only).
TIBIT’s exhibits instill pride and increase cultural awareness by providing a better understanding of the historic African American experience. With your support and donation, we can continue to bring these experiences to more people around the country.
